Redwood City – The Board of Supervisors will host the first public hearing on the $7.7 billion Recommended Budget for the next two fiscal years at 9 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2023.
Public hearings are also scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, and Wednesday, June 28.
The Recommended Budget outlines investments for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 fiscal years with a focus on ending homelessness, supporting children and families, advancing equity and boosting emergency preparation. The spending plan was released on May 26.
Public participation is encouraged in person or online via the Zoom platform.
County Executive Mike Callagy will kick off the hearing with an overview of the Recommended Budget and a fiscal outlook. Callagy and his staff on the County’s Budget and Performance team have taken a “cautious approach” due to uncertainties around inflation, interest rates and the potential of a recession.
The total Recommended Budgets (All Funds) are $4.1 billion for FY 2023-24 and $3.6 billion for FY 2024-25. The Recommended Budgets for the General Fund are $2.8 billion in FY 2023-24 and $2.6 billion in FY 2024-25.
The three days of hearings will be held in the Board Chambers, 400 County Center, Redwood City. Supervisors are expected to vote on the Recommended Budget following presentations and public comment on Wednesday. (As part of the multi-phase budget process, final hearings are expected in September following updated projections and revisions.)
