San Mateo – Veterans, military personnel and their families interested in learning more about veteran programs and services are invited to meet with over 40 veteran service providers on Friday, June 7, in San Mateo.
The County of San Mateo Veteran Services Office, in partnership with the San Mateo Elks Lodge Veterans Committee, will be hosting a Veteran Stand Down from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Details below.
This event will bring together service organizations covering everything from VA Healthcare, VA Disability Claims, housing assistance, employment resources, elder care programs, financial assistance, education and more.
Legal services will also be available on site for eligible veterans including waiver of outstanding traffic fines, bench warrant assistance, post convictions relief and sealing of records, and legal assistance through the Veterans Treatment and Diversion Court.
The Veteran Affairs Health System will have their mobile clinic on-site to provide toxic exposure screening and clinical check-ups for veterans along with VA healthcare enrollment.
“In the last year The Veterans Administration has made huge strides forward in acknowledging the risk of toxic exposure to veterans of all eras and branches and greatly expanded eligibility for VA healthcare. A veteran can attend this event, get enrolled in VA healthcare, receive a toxic exposure screening, get the veteran designator on their license and learn about the vast array of services they may be entitled to,” said Ed Kiryczun, County Veterans Services Officer, whose office is organizing the event. “That’s in addition to the unique opportunity to have access to all of the legal services that will be available in one site."
The Lions Club will be on-site cooking BBQ chicken for attendees. The event is open to all veterans and family members. Registration is not required but recommended if you are seeking legal services.
