The invasive White Garden Snail (Theba pisana) has been detected for the first time in San Mateo County in Half Moon Bay, California. This dime-sized snail feeds on a wide range of agricultural and ornamental plants and has the potential to cause considerable environmental and economic damage.
The White Garden Snail may appear similar in color to a Brown Garden Snail or Milk Snail, but has a smaller, flattened, light colored shell with a dark center.
Our office is determining the extent of the White Garden Snail distribution within San Mateo County.
