The first phase of the Realize Flood Park project has been in progress since mid-April. Contractors have excavated large sections of concrete, tennis courts, some grass areas and picnic sites in preparation for construction of one multi-use sports field, new drop-in picnic areas, and sports courts —basketball, tennis/pickleball, and sand volleyball. The portion of the park where these new facilities are located is scheduled to open this fall. The remainder of the park will remain closed during the second phase of construction.
Beginning July 20, contractors will be in the park four consecutive Saturdays: July 20 and 27 and August 3 and 10. Activity will not begin before 9 a.m. and will conclude at least by 5 p.m. Work will include installation of irrigation and careful removal of trees to be transplanted elsewhere in the park according to the project plan. The trees will be temporarily planted in large planter boxes until the permanent location is ready.
The bike pump track will be open on these days. We’re reminding cyclists to be aware of trucks moving in and out of the park and follow directions by safety flaggers.
