In 1984, the Commission of the Status of Women and the San Mateo County Board of Supervisor's established a permanent Women's Hall of Fame to recognize outstanding women for their achievements and contributions to the overall wellbeing of our County. The San Mateo County Women's Hall of Fame was the first of it’s kind in the State of California. Since its inception, the Hall of Fame has honored over 200 women for their contributions to our community.
The Women's Hall of Fame is open to all women, 18 years or older, regardless of race, color, national origin, disability, religion, political affiliation, or sexual orientation, who live or work in San Mateo County.
In 1993, the "Young Women of Excellence Award" was added to the Hall of Fame providing visibility and empowerment to young women for their accomplishments in community service, academic achievement, and acts of courage and perseverance in their daily lives.
